What's Changed?
From December 19th 2019:
- All trolley jacks have been updated to feature clearer warning labels with pictogram’s
- All trolley jacks sold in Australia must now meet the new mandatory trolley jack standard AS 2615:2016. Previously only jacks under 2500kg needed to meet the mandatory standard.
- All trolley jacks have undergone Increased testing to ensure the durability, longevity & performance.
AS 2615:2016 is also known as the “Consumer goods (Trolley Jack) safety standard 2017”

Why Has it Changed?
Australian mandatory standards are routinely updated to ensure continuous improvement to consumer safety.
What about my old trolley jack?
Don't worry! You can continue to use your current jack as long as it's still working and in good condition. It's an excellent time to check it and make sure it's not damaged or leaking, and is functioning correctly.

What Hasn’t Changed?
There are new mandatory standards for trolley jacks, car stands (jack stands) and car ramps. These do not cover:
- High lift jacks
- Bottle jacks
- Scissor jacks
- Vehicle specific jacks
- Loading ramps
What Else Has Changed?
Car Stands:
The Australian Standard has been updated from AS/NZS 2538:2004 to AS 2538:2016 – From November 30th 2019, All Car Stands also known as jack stands, axle stands or vehicle support stands sold in Australia must meet AS 2538:2016 – Also referred to as the 'Consumer Goods (Vehicle Support Stands) Safety Standard 2017'
Car Ramps:
The Australian Standard has been updated from AS/NZS 2640:1994 to AS 2640:2016 – From November 30th 2019, All Car Ramps Also known as service ramps or portable vehicle ramps sold in Australia must meet AS 2640:2016 – Also referred to as the 'Consumer Goods (Portable Ramps for Vehicles) Safety Standard 2017'
What is a Trolley Jack For?
A trolley jack is a hydraulic lifting device with wheels designed to move underneath a vehicle and lift a supporting chassis part temporarily while car stands are positioned in its place. These are covered by a different Mandatory Standard to a Bottle Jacks, Scissor Jacks or High Lift Jacks.
What is a Car Stand For?
Car stands are designed to go underneath a supporting part on the chassis of a vehicle. Car stands allow the user to have the car suspended higher above the ground to take off wheels and access suspension for parts replacement.
What is a Car Ramp For?
Car ramps allow the user to have a stable platform to drive onto and have access to the undercarriage of the vehicle without the assistance of a hydraulic jack or need for car stands.
