Ford, the revolutionary brand that shaped the modern automotive world and introduced driving to the average man, started in a humble workshop in Detroit, USA, in 1896 and went on to become a global entity. With the introduction of Ford to Australia in 1925, the first Australian-built vehicle was the Model T that came off an impromptu production line in an abandoned Geelong wool storage warehouse. In the ensuing years, Australia assembled a range of models including the Zodiac, Fairlane, Capri, Cortina and Ford Falcon. The latter become an Australian automotive icon for the majority of its 56 years in production, being the winning car numerous times in the Australian Touring Car Championship and the annual Bathurst 1000 touring car race.
