Ryco Oil Filters - The Ultimate in Oil Filtration
The Supercheap Auto experts give us the run down on oil filters.
Why is clean oil so important in a motor?
Having dirty oil in your motor is the same as using a vacuum cleaner repeatedly without emptying the dust chamber — eventually it just stops doing its job. Clean oil is integral to keeping your engine running and preventing any hard particles wearing the surface of your engine.
Further than that, though, a clean oil filter is just as important. Oil changes are good, but oil changes and filter changes done together are best. This is because a clogged-up filter can prevent oil flow altogether, wasting the oil change you’ve done, while possibly causing damage or even complete failure to your engine.
Can we stop dirt build-up?
The build-up of particles in your engine oil is an unavoidable by-product of vehicle use, but over time this will be accelerated as carbon and oil sludge accumulates within the engine.
By performing an oil change during service, the engine’s wear cycle can be slowed down, but it’s here that the oil filter’s role becomes critical in trapping these contaminants to filter the oil for its next cycle through the engine.
How does a good filter help?
To put it into perspective, standard Ryco Oil Filters have a 35-micron rating, which is comparable to most OE oil filters. The Ryco SynTec Oil Filters have a 20-micron rating, meaning they are filtering finer dust and dirt from getting into your engine. Filters such as the Ryco SynTec Oil Filters incorporate high-efficiency media designed to remove 99.8% of contaminants while ensuring maximum oil flow. This exceeds OEM specifications and will help keep your engine running smoothly until the next scheduled service.
What oil filter – and oil - fits my car?
You can find the right oil filter and parts for your vehicle by using the My Garage tab on the Supercheap Auto website. Just punch in your rego and state, or search by make, model and year.
For added peace of mind, when doing oil changes and replacing the oil filter, be sure to consider replacing the sump plug and gasket. By replacing these, you’re insuring against the gasket leaking due to the sump plug distorting or wearing down over time.
SynTec Oil Filters are a drop-in replacement for your regular oil filter. The matt black housing with a grit finish makes it easy to grip for removal. A silicone anti-drain valve keeps the filter full of oil between startups and a Teflon oil seal makes for easy removal at the next service.
Expert tip: When to replace your oil filter, from top mechanic Kevin Hudson.
You should always replace your oil filter each time you service your vehicle, which should be — at a minimum — according to your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation. Servicing your vehicle with Ryco SynTec Oil Filters will give your vehicle higher oil flow and higher oil pressure, with cleaner oil for a longer period.
However, depending on your vehicle use, it’s always worth considering service at shorter intervals. This is especially true if you spend a lot of time idling in your vehicle or if you’re driving in extremely dusty conditions. By using Ryco SynTec Oil Filters, you’re getting the same high- quality protection as Supercars race engines, ensuring a longer life cycle for your vehicle.
