How To Install a Fridge Freezer
Overview
A Ridge Ryder Fridge Freezer is a must have accessory if you’re tired of soggy food, warm drinks, and spending a fortune on ice. But without a quality installation you won’t be much better off. Thankfully, it’s easy to do a quality job in your own driveway or shed.
Here's how!
Steps
Positioning and Measuring
First up, decide where you want you secure your fridge freezer. Ensure there is plenty of room around the vents for air to circulate, and there are at least two points to tie the fridge down.
Now you can determine the length of cable you require. Cable with at least a 6 millimetre diameter will ensure your fridge performs at its peak.
Wire can be either twin core allowing an earth run to the battery, or single core with an earth at the back of the vehicle.
Wiring
Starting at the battery, solder an inline fuse holder to the end of your wire, crimp an appropriate ring terminal to this and apply heat shrink to any joins.
This can be connected to the battery, but be certain to leave the fuse holder empty until the installation is complete.
To protect your wiring from damage due to sharp objects and chafing, run all wiring that is outside the cabin through conduit, and secure it with cable ties.
Run the cable to your fridge location, feeding it through a grommet in the firewall, and underneath the carpet, kick panels and interior trim.
Auxiliary Socket
Now it’s time to install your auxiliary socket in a panel near your fridge.
A flush mount plug will ensure a neat finish, but before drilling any holes, be sure that there is sufficient clearance behind the panel for both the plug and the wiring.
Pull the wires through the hole you just made. Apply a spade terminal to both the positive and the earth.
If you still need to run an earth lead; select a factory bolt with a solid bare metal connection, and run a length of black wire the same gauge as your earth from this; to your socket.
Fuse installation and Test
Once your new power socket is solidly mounted, a fuse can be installed. 10 amps will provide plenty for the fridge, without overloading the wiring.
Wire up your fridge right the first time and you will have years of optimum service from your Ridge Ryder fridge freezer.
