Supercheap Auto Racing 2009
Supercheap Auto Racing is back; bigger, better and brighter than ever to contest the14 round V8 Supercar Championship Series in 2009.
With the retirement from fulltime driving by team owner Paul Morris, Russell ‘the Enforcer’ Ingall was joined over the summer off-season by rising star Tim Slade to present one of the V8 series’ most exciting driver line-ups.
It was only just over 12 months ago that Ingall joined Morris’ very much underrated team, the combination surprising critics of Ingall’s decision with three podium finishes, a ninth place points finish for Ingall and the season’s Most Improved Team award for the 2008 season.
Ingall starts the new season with a brand new, state-of-the-art VE Commodore built at the team’s Gold Coast headquarters.
The 2009 Supercheap Auto Racing Commodores are brighter and more colourful as last year’s and looking far more aggressive – exactly how the Enforcer himself is feeling.
“We had a great season last year and this year we’re looking for nothing less than race wins, while a championship isn’t out of the question,” Ingall said.
23 year old Slade beat a long list of contenders for the highly-prized position to race alongside Ingall.
“This is a dream come true, it’s what I’ve been working towards my whole career,” Slade said. “I couldn’t have two better blokes to learn from than Russell Ingall and Paul Morris.”
Slade finished seventh and was Privateer’s Cup Champion in last year’s Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series, winning Round 2 at Wakefield Park. He won the CIK Junior Intercontinental A Australian karting title, has raced successfully in F3 and was also runner up in the 2006 Australian Formula Ford Championship.
To keep his hand in before the annual V8 endurance races, Morris will hit the dirt tracks in his winged Supercheap Auto Racing Sprintcar contesting the Queensland state series.
The V8 season again consists of 14 points rounds plus the non-championship Australian Grand Prix event, but the calendar has taken on a whole new appearance with the addition of two brand new street events – the Townsville 400 in July and the season-ending Sydney 400 at Homebush in December.
